n their ongoing investigation into a deadly factory explosion that killed 47 workers in Tangerang regency, Banten, the Police claimed that investigators had found no materials to make firecrackers at the site.
"We have checked the remains [of the factory] and only found substances for fireworks," Tangerang Police chief Sr. Comr. Harry Kurniawan told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
While certain types of fireworks are permissible with a permit, any production or sales of firecrackers are prohibited due to their high explosive materials.
The 700-meter-square factory is registered under the company PT Panca Buana Cahaya Sukses, which is owned by Indra Liyono, 40.
It was severely damaged by an explosion and resulting fire on Thursday morning.
The building was licensed to operate as a warehouse in 2015, but its permit was upgraded to manufacture fireworks a year later. However, it only began producing fireworks two months ago.
Tangerang Regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar said that the factory’s license could be revoked following the incident, as well as emerging allegations that the company may have employed underage workers. (fac)
