Jambi Police have uncovered an online prostitution ring involving a 20-year-old widow, who allegedly forced other young women into the business.
Jambi Police have uncovered an alleged prostitution service offered via a mobile messaging app.
In the operation, investigators arrested a suspected trafficker on Thursday, a 20-year-old widow who allegedly forced at least two other women, aged 20 and 29, into prostitution, at Jambi's Pasar district.
The police found that the widow had offered sexual services via the mobile messaging app BeeTalk. At the time of her arrest, she was waiting for the two women and their clients at a budget hotel in Pasar.
"We made the arrest following information about the alleged activity that was taking place in the hotel," Jambi Police's General Crimes Investigation Unit head Sr. Comr. Benedictus Anies Purnawan said on Friday.
The police also seized Rp 1.5 million in cash, among other evidence.
Online prostitution has been rampant in Jambi. The most recent case was last month, when the police arrested a 25-year-old woman who allegedly acted as a procurer and forced other young women into prostitution.
In June, the police arrested two suspected procurers, one of whom was a woman, who allegedly offered girls between 16 and 17 years old as prostitutes via various mobile messaging platforms. (ipa)
