he Banyumas administration is set to impose sanctions against three Public Order Agency personnel that allegedly assaulted a local journalist, an official has said.

The three officials allegedly assaulted Metro TV journalist Darbe Tyas last month, according to an internal investigation set up by the regency’s inspectorate division and the Public Order Agency.

The inspectorate would hand them disciplinary sanctions, Public Order Agency head Imam Pamungkas said.

“We were waiting for the inspectorate’s decision on the sanctions that would be imposed against them,” he said over the weekend.

As previously reported, Darbe was allegedly beaten by members of the police and the agency while reporting of an incident in which officers forcefully dispersed a protest against the Baturraden geothermal power plant in front of the regent’s office in Banyumas, Central Java, in early October. Darbe, who suffered injuries in the incident, filed a report to the Banyumas Police.

Following an investigation, the police named four members of the police and three agency personnel suspects in the case.

Imam vowed to ensure that such an incident would not happen in the future, especially during protests.

“I will not deploy officers who get angry easily to handle protests,” he added.

Separately, Darbe asked the police and the Banyumas administration to firmly punish the suspects.

“I hope there will be no more violence against the press after this,” he said. (rin)
