A 19-year-old woman allegedly killed her newborn baby at her rented home in Pademangan, North Jakarta, on Monday.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday the woman had killed the baby boy because she was scared her family would discover she had been impregnated by her boyfriend, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
"She cut the umbilical cord off herself with scissors, then hurt the baby with it," Argo said, as quoted by kompas.com.
She then put the baby into a bucket and covered him with clothes, Argo said.
Her stepsister later found her bleeding and took her to Pademangan Hospital for intensive care.
The stepsister then came back to the house and found the baby dead in the bucket, Argo said. (yon)
