T

he Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has pledged to maintain good relations and communications with its alumni as they are considered to have a role in the university’s success and performance.

UGM rector Panut Mulyono conveyed the pledge during a meeting with members of the Association of UGM Alumni’s North Sumatra branch in Medan on Sunday.

“No single university in this world can succeed without the participation of its alumni,” Panut said.

He said UGM had produced over 300,000 alumni living in Indonesia and abroad. Their contributions were evident in the development of their respective regions, including North Sumatra.

He said UGM's alumni had also contributed scholarship funds and improved curriculum.

“That’s why we try to always say ‘hello’ to them wherever they are,” said Panut

The rector said nationally, UGM had been declared the “best university”. Internationally, UGM is ranked 402nd according to the United States-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) university ranking institution.

“These achievements cannot be separated from the alumni's contributions,” said Paripurna, UGM's vice rector overseeing cooperation and alumni. (ebf)
