mbattled House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto faced his first questioning as a suspect in the mega corruption case surrounding the procurement of e-ID cards by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday.

KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah confirmed that Setya, who has been named a suspect by the KPK for the second time, came to the KPK office on Tuesday.

Setya arrived at 10:25 a.m and was guided by a KPK staff member to the second floor of the anti-graft office to undergo questioning. Both Setya and his lawyer, Fredrich Yunadi, refused to comment regarding Tuesday's interrogation.

The KPK detained Setya on Sunday evening after a team of doctors concluded that the politician was fit to face questioning. The health assessment was conducted over three days, after Setya was admitted to the hospital following a car accident on Thursday night.

The antigraft body again named Setya a suspect in the e-ID graft case, said to have caused Rp 2.3 trillion (US$170 million) in state losses, on Nov. 10, after he previously won a pretrial motion in late September that voided his suspect status.

Separately, Golkar Party executive chairman Nurdin Halid said that during the party's plenary meeting on Tuesday, the party would make a decision on whether to dismiss Setya from his position as House speaker. (afr/ahw)
