elegates from dozens of countries have discussed energy security and sustainable energy at the 28th Energy Charter Conference in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, from Nov. 28 to 29.

They underlined the importance of the International Energy Charter, signed by 86 countries, to pledge the fair distribution of energy to all countries across the globe and promote a sustainable approach in extracting resources.

Speaking at the conference, Turkmenistan cabinet minister Maksat Babayev said the International Energy Charter made it possible for countries around the globe to access affordable energy.

Meanwhile, United Arab Emirates energy minister Matar Al Neyadi said the Energy Charter provided a unique platform for signatory countries to exchange ideas and collaborate in the development of the energy sector.

“Such collaboration is one of the attempts to ensure energy security and develop energy extraction in a sustainable manner” Neyadi added.

The United Arab Emirates is one of the world’s largest oil and petroleum producers, while Turkmenistan is the major producer of natural gas in Central Asia.

The Gambia, the UAE and Nigeria are among the new signatories of the chapter.

The 28th Energy Charter Conference was attended by delegates from 49 countries and 12 international and regional organizations as well as representatives from 14 major energy companies. (bbn)
