hirty-three trees fell across the capital following nearly two hours of heavy rainfall and storms on Monday afternoon, an agency recorded.
Central Jakarta had the most fallen trees, with 19. Meanwhile there were eight fallen trees in South Jakarta, four in North Jakarta, and one each in West Jakarta and East Jakarta, according to Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) data.
In Central Jakarta, Kemayoran district and Tanah Abang had the most fallen trees with six incidents each. In Senen district, there were three incidents, followed by Gambir with two incidents. Meanwhile, there was one fallen tree each in Sawah Besar and Menteng districts.
In South Jakarta, Tebet and Setiabudi districts each saw three incidents of fallen trees, and Kebayoran district had two.
There were also toppled trees in Tanjung Priok and Pademangan districts in North Jakarta, with two incidents each. Trees also fell in Kebon Jeruk district, West Jakarta, and in Cakung district, East Jakarta, with one toppled tree each.
The fallen trees disrupted commuter train and Transjakarta bus services on Monday. Train services passing Karet Station in Central Jakarta and Ancol Station in North Jakarta were disrupted after a tree collapsed and disrupted the power supply to the Karet Station area at around 2 p.m. on Monday.
Jakarta was struck by heavy rain and strong winds starting from noon and peaking at around 2 p.m. Scattered showers continued throughout the capital until about 5 p.m. (roi)
