Uppal’s five-wicket haul helps Jaguar to fighting win over Rebels

In a weekend of low scores, Praveen Uppal extended his huge lead at the top of the bowler’s leaderboard by spinning a web around the Rebels CC batsmen to claim yet another five-for.

Jaguar CC did not get off to a good start as Mohammed Alfhariz’s late-swing saw him take four scalps, sending the Jaguar CC top order back to the pavilion in quick time. Marten Eddy and Gaurav Tandon also continued to chip away at the middle order, but a late burst from A Sharma helped Jaguar CC reach 96 for 9 in 20 overs.

The Rebels openers started well and at the half-way point, things were looking comfortable. However, the introduction of Uppal set the cat among the pigeons with some fine spin bowling as the Rebels batsmen, unsure of whether to defend or attack, panicked.

The last eight wickets fell for just 18 runs with Waqar Ali also hitting the stumps on a few occasions, leaving the Rebels bowled out for just 58 runs.

In the lone 35-over game of the weekend, Emerio CC caused an upset of sorts by comfortably beating Senayan CC by six wickets at Karawaci.

Senayan lost the big guns of Faisal and Viraj early after electing to bat first. Rakesh and Parag strung together a small recovery, but debutant Harmeet Singh struck thrice to bowl Senayan out for just 92 runs.

In reply, despite the loss of a few early wickets, Saurabh Sudhir and Maneesh Dubey batted well to ensure Emerio got home with six wickets in hand to register its first win of the season.

Rain threatened but kept away long enough to help Mavecrics CC notch up its first win of the season with a big win over Rawamangun CC (RCC). Sanjeev Modi, with good support from the top order anchored the Mavecrics’ innings while skipper Keyur Moradia provided the final flourish to take his side to a very strong 154 runs from 18 overs.

Nimesh Shah accounted for the RCC openers early, but Aditya Gustama tried to rebuild the innings with a solid knock. The required run rate was high and hence, called for some big hitting, which Mitesh Dingra ensured did not happen as RCC could only manage 115 runs in its 18 overs.
