ublicly listed event organizer PT Dyandra Media International, part of Kompas Group, will boost its event organizer business next year and develop a new business in the digital sector to improve earnings, its top executives said recently.
Next year, Dyandra aims to collect Rp 1.08 trillion (US$79.92 million) in revenue and Rp 43 billion in net profit, higher than this year’s projections at Rp 892.27 billion and Rp 2.58 billion, respectively.
Dyandra Media International as a holding company currently operates four subsidiaries: PT Dyandra Promosindo (an event and exhibition organizer), PT Dyamall Graha Utama (event support), PT Graha Multi Utama (hotel business) and PT Nusa Dua Indonesia (venue and hall business).
Among these four segments, the firm placed event organizer as its core business as that was where more than 70 percent of its revenue came from, said Daswar Marpaung, Dyandra’s president director.
“Event organizers [EOs] are needed by all industries, such as fast-moving consumer goods, media — even the government really needs the service as it encompasses many things from brand engagement, to activation, to exhibitions,” he said.
Dyandra believes that the outlook of the EO business will be positive as many companies have preferred to advertise their brands through forums and exhibitions rather than through mass media, typically in big cities.
Some of the events that it organized this year were the Indonesia International Furniture Expo, the Indonesia International Motorshow and the 5th Indonesia International Geothermal Exhibition and Convention.
Apart from organizing events, Dyandra is going to create an app with an aim of becoming a one-stop solution that can integrate all of the firm’s activities, from promotions and holding a forum for buyers and sellers to meet, to e-payment and e-ticketing.
The development of the new app, which will start in the first half of 2018, is hoped to make the company become more efficient and reduce transaction costs in the future.
“Dyandra will either acquire a company or make our own company,” Daswar said.
However, for the hotel segment, Dyandra has chosen to hold back from expansion, and will focus on downsizing its business through asset selling.
To improve its bottom line, the firm will sell two assets in the form of a hotel and land next year. In the past years, the property business has contributed negatively to the firm’s consolidated performance.
Currently, the company manages nine hotels in various regions. Previously, it had sold the seventh floor of the City Plaza at Rp 74.71 billion. From these transactions, the company managed to reap a profit of Rp 48 billion.
At present, it owns Bali Nusa Dua Hotel, located strategically in the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), where many companies regularly hold big events.
