alaysia’s ride-hailing app Grab signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday with financial start-up Paytren, as part of its "Grab 4 Indonesia 2020" master plan to advance Indonesia’s digital economy.
Under the agreement, which was signed by Grab Indonesia managing director Ridzki Kramadibrata and Paytren managing director Hari Wibowo, the two companies have a commitment to empower the unbanked and disadvantaged society in the country.
“The partnership between Grab and Paytren will offer micro-entrepreneurs in Indonesia new business opportunities and provide more people in their local communities with access to online services, in line with the development of Indonesia’s digital economy,” Ridzki told reporters after the signing ceremony.
Starting in January 2018, the Paytren app, which will be integrated with Grab’s Kudo platform, will allow its members to recruit driver-partners for Grab and earn a commission-based income.
GrabPay Indonesia managing director Ongki Kurniawan said the strategic cooperation was aimed at integrating small and medium enterprises (SMEs) registered under Grab, Paytren and Kudo.
“Combining all SMEs together will gradually turn our vision into reality. Through the emergence of Paytren in rural parts of Indonesia, we expect it will accelerate Grab’s expansion, reaching 5 million micro-entrepreneurs across the country,” said Ongki.
The company has so far partnered with 3 million micro-entrepreneurs in Indonesia.
Earlier this year, Grab acquired Indonesian online-to-offline (O2O) e-commerce platform Kudo in a deal to invest up to US$700 million to support Indonesia’s goal of becoming the largest digital economy Southeast Asia by 2020. (fny/bbn)
