inety-five percent of 451 water pumps in Jakarta work well in handling floods in the capital, the city's Water Resource Agency head Teguh Hendarwan said on Wednesday.
"The remaining 5 percent are old pumps that are already 40 years old," said Teguh as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.
Teguh said the flooding this month dried faster compared to the floods in August.
This, he said, could happen because the agency had provided 150 mobile pumps, as well as deploying city cleaners.
"Hence, the floods in Dukuh Atas [Central Jakarta] could dry just within one and a half hours," he said.
Previously on Monday, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expressed his anger when he visited the Dukuh Atas pump station in Central Jakarta following severe floods.
The floods were reportedly caused by damaged pumps in the area. Of six, only two worked well, when Anies visited the station.
The damage had been reported two months ago, according to a Dukuh Atas pump operator.
Jakarta public transportation was crippled on Monday when the city was hit by heavy rainfall and fallen trees. (agn)
