T

he Jakarta Police have handed over to prosecutors the case dossier of a former journalist suspected to have been involved in a car accident with graft suspect Setya Novanto last month.

The former journalist, Hilman Mattauch, was named a suspect for reckless driving last month. He reportedly hit a light pole in West Jakarta while driving a car carrying Setya, who was sent to the hospital to treat several injuries following the accident.

“The dossier has been sent to the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office,” said Jakarta Police traffic director Sr. Comr. Halim Pagarra as quoted by Antara on Wednesday.

Setya reportedly went missing before the incident occurred. He was pursued by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators after he failed to fulfill the antigraft body’s summons several times.

Following the accident, Hilman was fired by MetroTV, the media company he worked for. He was accused of having violated “the news channel’s protocols” as he had reportedly picked up and driven Setya to an interview at the broadcaster’s studio in his own car rather than the company’s car.

Hilman has been charged under the 2009 Traffic Law’s articles 283 and 310 on reckless driving, which carry a maximum sentence of three months in jail.  (saf/ebf)
