tate pharmaceutical company Bio Farma has increased the supply of diphtheria vaccines in Banten, Jakarta and West Java, following the implementation of the government’s Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) program to tackle the spread of the bacterial infection in the three areas.
The delivery of the vaccines will be conducted in three stages, starting from December and later in January and June next year.
Bio Farma corporate secretary Bambang Heriyanto said the company had provided an additional 137,000 vials of vaccines for the ORI program in December. These comprised 35,000 vials of DT 10ds vaccines and 102,000 vials of Td 10ds vaccines,” he said in Bandung on Thursday.
“DT 10ds means this diphtheria tetanus vaccine consists of 10 dosages. So each vial can be used for 10 children.”
The Health Ministry needs at least 130,000 vials of DT 10ds vaccines, 760,000 vials of Td vaccines and 1.4 million vials of DTP-Hb-Hib for the ORI program in December this year.
“Of that amount, Bio Farma can provide 35,000 vials of DT 10ds vaccines and 102,000 vials of Td 10ds vaccines while for DTP-HB-Hib, the government still has an adequate stock,” said Bambang.
Meanwhile, for 2018, Bio Farma will provide an additional 12.2 million vials of vaccines that contain diphtheria components. These comprise 1.2 million vials of DT 10ds, seven million vials of Td 10ds vaccines, and four million vials of DTP-Hb-Hib vaccines.
“This does not include vaccines supplied for the government’s national immunization program,” Bambang said. (ebf)
