ormer Air Force chief of staff Marshal (Ret.) Agus Supriatna failed to appear at the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) office for questioning on Friday.
Agus is accused of being involved in a graft case related to the procurement of a helicopter from Italian-British manufacturing company Agusta Westland.
Agus’ lawyer, Pahrozi, said his client was still in Saudi Arabia on an umrah (minor haj). The KPK previously summoned Agus on Nov.27 for questioning, however, he failed to fulfill the summons for the same reason.
“I confirmed that with my client’s family last night. They told me Pak Agus was still in Mecca,” he said, adding that Agus’ 30-day visa would expire on Dec.22.
Pahrozi said he would make sure his client visited the KPK after returning from abroad.
The KPK has named five suspects in the case, including three personnel from the Air Force. The five suspects are accused of collaborating to proceed with the chopper purchase, despite President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo having ordered the cancellation of the project.
According to the KPK, the three Air Force personnel could be charged with committing insubordination, misuse of authority and embezzlement. The graft case has reportedly caused Rp 224 billion (US$ 16 million) in state losses. (vla/ebf)
