he Jakarta Police, in collaboration with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), is conducting a market operation to maintain price stability and availability of basic commodities in Jakarta for Christmas and New Year. The operation will last for eight days, running from Dec. 14 to 21.

“The market operation is aimed at maintaining the supply of basic commodities as well as tackling wrongdoings in the market that can disrupt price stability, such as food hoarding. We will help Bulog and the Jakarta provincial administration strictly handle those problems,” said Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Purwadi on Thursday.

The market operation is being conducted at traditional markets across the capital city, such as at Pademangan and Warakas markets in North Jakarta, as well as at Menteng Tenggulun and Kemayoran markets in Central Jakarta.

Additionally, the Jakarta Police and Bulog team will go to residential areas and low-cost apartment buildings (Rusunawa) to sell low-priced staple foods. They have been scheduled to go to several rusunawa, such as Petamburan in Central Jakarta, Muara Angke in North Jakarta and Rawa Bebek in East Jakarta.    

Under the market operation, the Jakarta Police and Bulog will provide sugar, rice and palm oil at affordable prices. Five kilograms of rice will be sold for Rp 40,000 (US$3), 1 liter of palm oil for Rp 11,000 and 1 kg of sugar for Rp 12,000.
