akarta Environment Agency head Isnawa Adji said on Sunday that he wants emission tests for vehicles to be set as a requirement to renew vehicle registration certificates (STNK).
“Many people do not care about the environment and want to simply fake their vehicle emission stickers,” he said when interviewed after an Free Emission Test event in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
“Meanwhile, there is data available online that show Jakarta’s air quality is rapidly worsening,” he said.
According to Isnawa, the aim of the program was to test every four-wheeled vehicle in Jakarta. The program would be organized by the Environment Agency in cooperation with the Transportation Agency (Dishub), Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) and the Regional Fund Management (BPKD).
He will also coordinate with Jakarta Smart City, which will provide information about certified garages all over the city. This way, Jakartans can get their emission tests done at these garages while having their monthly service.
“Vehicles tested at these garages will automatically be registered in our database,” he added.
He said if all parties agreed to support the program, he was optimistic the city’s air quality would improve significantly.
