A West Jakarta traffic police officer was allegedly beaten by a driver and passengers of a car on Tuesday.

The traffic unit’s head, Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudarmanto, said Second Insp. Dingin was managing traffic in Tomang at 3:15 p.m. and tried to stop a car that he suspected had fake license plates.

However, the driver did not stop the car but instead accelerated and fled the scene.

“The officer told the driver to stop, but the latter accelerated. The driver was then pursued by Dingin on his motorbike,” Sudarmanto said Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Dingin caught up with the car and parked his motorbike in front of the car to prevent the driver from fleeing again. Dingin then approached the driver and asked for his driver’s license and vehicle registration document (STNK).

The driver, identified as Abraham Paluppa, got out of the car with two passengers, Agustinus Paluppa and Bryan Futwembun, moved Dingin’s motorbike and allegedly beat him.

Dingin sustained injuries to his face.

Several people reported the incident to the Tomang Police, after which officers apprehended the three people and took Dingin to the hospital.

“He is getting better, while the three people have been detained at the West Jakarta Police office,” he said. (wnd)
