he Surakarta Police will deploy 1,120 officers to safeguard various areas in the city over Christmas and New Year’s, including 188 churches.
"The city police alone have prepared 1,120 personnel. There will be additional security measures by a joint team comprising personnel from the National Police, the Indonesian Military [TNI] and the Public Order Agency [Satpol PP]," said Surakarta Police operations head Comr. Arief Joko on Tuesday.

Bomb squads will take part in the operation, which will also cover a number of tourist sites.
"To date, we have detected no terrorism threat," Arief said. "People should, however, inform the police should they find any suspicious activities."
The Surakarta Transportation Agency will deploy 100 personnel to anticipate traffic congestion in 10 busy spots in the city, said agency head Hari Prihanto.
The agency will also monitor 67 CCTV cameras across the city. (vla/ipa)
