ith Christmas and New Year's Eve just around the corner, the Jakarta Police traffic division has planned to deploy personnel to help organize traffic ahead of the peak of the holiday exodus on Friday.

Jakarta Police traffic division deputy head Adj. Sr. Comr. Suhandono said Wednesday that the police would deploy 1,200 personnel to secure traffic in areas prone to heavy congestion.

"Our prediction was about 10,000 vehicles [will leave Jakarta] but we were not certain since it is a holiday season," he said as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the personnel would largely focus on overseeing traffic on toll roads heading outside of Jakarta.

"We will focus on securing the toll road that heads to Cikampek, West Java, and Merak in Banten,"  he added. (rdi)
