resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to launch the operation of the newly constructed airport railway service, linking Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Baten to inner Jakarta early next year.

“The operation of the airport train will be launched by President Jokowi on Jan. 2, 2018,” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said in Jakarta on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.

He said state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) would be fully in charge of the airport train operation, including determining the price of the tickets.

Previously, he said that fares for the airport train would be set at around Rp 70,000 (US$5.16) to Rp 80,000.

Ten trains will operate along the railway line, with 82 trips per day and a headway of 30 minutes and a capacity of 33,728 passengers per day.

The estimated travel time from Manggarai Station in South Jakarta to the airport is 55 minutes.

The train will stop at five stations – Manggarai Station, Sudirman Baru Station, Duri Station, Batu Ceper Station and Soekarno-Hatta Airport Station. (bbn)
