he Toll Road Authority Agency (BPJT) is anticipating a surge in traffic along roads heading to tourist areas over the year-end holidays.
"We expect a traffic surge on toll roads that are close to tourist areas such as Puncak in Bogor and Bandung." BPJT head Terry Trisaputra Zuna in Jakarta on Thursday.
The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry estimates a 30 percent increase in land traffic, including along toll roads on Dec. 23, Dec. 30 and Jan 1.
In anticipation of the situation, the BPJT has prepared a number of measures, including by halting construction along toll roads from Dec. 22 to Jan. 1, enforcing full cashless payment at toll gates and introducing a contraflow strategy.
“By halting projects like the construction of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, the existing toll roads will be at full capacity,” he said.
Terry said he had coordinated with banks to improve the top-up capacity at toll road rest areas. "We also private top-up machines at toll gates to help toll users top up their e-money cards." he added. (srs/bbn)
