Dave Holme’s last ball six hands WISCI thrilling win

I

n one of the closest finishes seen in the Texmoda JCA league, David Holme belted 10 runs off the last two balls of the final over to take his side, WISCI Wanderers, home with just a wicket to spare against the Jakarta Barbarians.

The in-form Jakarta Barbarians openers started things off well as they put on more than 50 runs for the opening stand.

Things, however, started to go awry for them after the introduction of Aman Singh who took three wickets in one over to rock the innings.

Govind Sodani and Suhail Modak kept up the pressure at the other end as the Barbarians were bowled out for what looked like a below par 127 in their 20 overs.

The Barbarians bowling has been their strength and it was on display again as Vivek Singh rocked WISCI early in a superb opening burst to claim three wickets, which included the scalps of the dangerous Vinayak and Naresh Gupta, for just eight runs.

Rajeev Rajeswaran provided some much-needed stability with a workmanlike knock. But Vivek Nair struck with three wickets to have WISCI’s back against the wall. Then big Dave Holme, who has on many occasions rescued WISCI with the bat, chose this match to argue for a climb up the batting order as he single-handedly shepherded his team towards the target.

With more than 10 runs needed off the last over and only one wicket in hand, it looked like the Barbarians had the game under control.

Dave had to refuse singles to retain strike and with his team needing nine runs to win off the last two balls, he hit a four and a six to pull off a heist.

The young Yadavas Chairos Tigers extended their unbeaten run with another comfortable win over Mavecrics CC in their 35 over encounter.

Gede Darma Arta was in splendid form as he sliced through the Mavecrics batting line-up with another five-wicket haul.

Mavecrics skipper Keyur Moradia scored a brisk 50 but they could only manage 97 runs. Frengky Shony and Muhaddis made light work of the chase, getting their team home by eight wickets and plenty of overs to spare.

Challengers CC, chasing their first win of the season, took on their Tamil Nadu cousins, Metro Indians, in a T20 clash at Cibubur. Metro Indians, who were without their star player Kiruba, seemed to be on suicide mission as six of their batsmen were run out.

Some good tight bowling by the Challengers, especially Manickavasagan and Jagan Krishnan, ensured that Metro could only manage 81 runs in their 20 overs.

In reply, Aditya Khurana took three quick wickets to have Challengers in a bit of bother, but sensible batting by Vimal Nair and Santosh Kumar ensured that the Challengers reached the total with four wickets in hand.

The experienced pair of Gaurav Kapoor and Dihan Silva got Ceylon CC into a good position with an 86-run partnership, but they departed in quick succession and that triggered a collapse thanks to the bowling of PC Sethi and Mukesh Tailor.

The ever-reliable Rajeev Kumar delivered yet again under pressure to ensure Ceylon scored 150 runs. Dihan Silva then paired up with his fellow Sri Lankan, Lakmal, to ensure Indorama could not string together big partnerships and despite Nitin Joshi’s 30 and some runs by Kaushik Vishwanath, Indorama were 114 for 8. The tail wagged well but in the end Indorama fell short by nine runs.
