espite opening for traffic on Monday, the new Pancoran overpass in South Jakarta still lacks a building-worthiness certificate (SLF) and has yet to undergo a load-bearing test.
However, the head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Andri Yansyah, said that the road was safe, and drivers need not to worry about using it since the overpass had been tested for its safety regardless of the lack of a certificate.
“The load-bearing test will be conducted at night when there are fewer vehicles, to avoid traffic congestion,” Andri told kompas.com on Monday.
The agency’s intersection construction division head Hananto Krisna explained that the qualification test would be conducted after the overpass was officially opened.
“Our team has already cooperated with the commission of road and tunnel security to ensure its [Pancoran overpass] safety,” he said.
According to him, the qualification and load-bearing tests would take about an hour.
Hananto also stressed that the overpass operation did not violate any road safety regulation. (dpk)
