tate-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno has reappointed Edi Sukmoro as the president director of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), only a day after he was removed from the same position in an internal reshuffle.

On Monday, Rini issued ministerial letter No. SK-10/MBU/01/2018, which removed Edi as president director and instead appointed him as the acting president director of the company as well as the KAI logistics and development director.

No explanation was provided on the reversal, kompas.com reported on Wednesday, but the ministry's deputy for business infrastructure, Hambra, said that Edi was still needed to help KAI complete a number of transportation projects.

“The new director has to be able to complete a number of national strategic projects in addition to maintaining the company's performance,” Hambra said on Tuesday in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, several other officials of the state-owned enterprise (SOE) have also been rotated: Bambang Eko Martono, formerly the safety and security director, is now the logistics and development director; former general and human resources development director Apriyono Wedi Chresnanto is the new safety and security director; while R. Ruli Adi has replaced Apriyono as the general and human resources development director.

Earlier, the government had assigned PT KAI to take the lead among the SOEs tasked with completing the construction of the Greater Jakarta light rail transit (the Greater LRT), worth nearly Rp 29.9 trillion (US$2.24 billion). (bbn)
