Falling building material kills worker in Central Jakarta

window-cleaning gondola operator at the Sudirman 78 office tower construction project in Central Jakarta was struck and killed on Tuesday evening by falling building material. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Andi Nugraha.

The incident occurred at around 8.45 p.m. as Andi was about to operate the gondola, according to Central Jakarta Police, Comr. Suyatno.

“At that time, the victim was about to step inside a gondola with his partner from the second floor of the construction site. Suddenly, building material fell and struck the victim on the helmet,” Suyatno said as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.

Andi reportedly fainted and began bleeding from the wound on his head. Other workers on the construction site rushed him to the nearby Jakarta Hospital in South Jakarta.

However, he died upon arriving at the hospital.

Suyatno said the police had confiscated several building materials from the site of the incident. (dpk)
