akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has said that he will rebuild Kampung Akuarium in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, which was cleared in 2016 by his predecessor, Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.
"The kampung has been cleared and turned into rubble. We want to rebuild it," Anies said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said the administration would collaborate with former residents on the new design for the area. Anies added that Kampung Akuarium would become part of the capital's heritage tourism program, to be integrated with the other locations such as Sunda Kelapa Port and Luar Batang.
The city administration has been working to provide a temporary shelter to house hundreds of evictees that refused to be relocated to low-cost apartments.
Anies said the temporary shelter would be able to accommodate about 180 families. (cal)
