Student dies after being hit by Transjakarta bus

A junior high school student, identified as Fikri, 12, died immediately after a Transjakarta bus hit him on Jl. Warung Buncit, South Jakarta, at around 01:00 pm on Friday.

A

junior high school student, identified as Fikri, 12, died immediately after a Transjakarta bus hit him on Jl. Warung Buncit, South Jakarta, at around 01:00 pm on Friday.

“The victim was a student at SMP 238 Junior High School in Duren Tiga [South Jakarta], who was crossing the road when the bus passed by,” said spokesperson of the Pancoran Police, Adj. First Insp. Rubiyanto, as quoted by kompas.com.

South Jakarta Police traffic unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Edy Surasa said the police had questioned the driver and staff on board the Transjakarta bus, and the driver had said he did not know Fikri was there before the bus suddenly hit him.

"According to the driver, the Transjakarta bus was on the way to Mampang from Ragunan at a speed of 30-50 kilometers per hour. Suddenly he heard a loud sound from the front of the bus," said Edy.

Edy said eyewitnesses around the scene saw Fikri and his friend joking around and chasing each other before the accident happened.

Fikri’s body was rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo general hospital in Central Jakarta. (roi)
