T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has scheduled businessman and suspect Soetikno Soedarjo for questioning related to an alleged graft case involving the procurement of Rolls-Royce aircraft engines on Tuesday.

The KPK has scheduled to summon Soetikno for questioning as a witness for another suspect and former president director of state-owned airline company Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar, on Tuesday at KPK offices, according to a statement from the antigraft body.

Soetikno allegedly acted as a broker between United Kingdom-based Rolls-Royce and Garuda in an attempt to secure major deals for the former to provide aircraft engines to at least 12 countries, including Indonesia.

The KPK named Soetikno and Emirsyah suspects in January last year, but is yet to detain the two in the case centering on the procurement of around 50 Airbus planes by Garuda between 2005 and 2014, when Emirsyah reigned as its president director.

The antigraft body accused Emirsyah of accepting bribes from Soetikno in the form of money amounting to €1.2 million and US$180,000, as well as “things” equal to $2 million that were detected in Indonesia and Singapore.

The KPK believes the case is part of a transnational crime and is currently working with the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau of Singapore in investigating the case. (ipa)
