baby boy, thought to be about three days old, was found by the side of a street in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Wednesday morning.
The baby, with the placenta still attached, was found inside a cardboard box and covered with a cloth.
“The baby was found by residents on the way to morning prayers,” East Jakarta Social Agency official Sahita Rini said.
The passers-by heard crying by the side of the street, which led them to the box.
They reported the discovery to Pondok Bambu Police and district officials.
The baby was taken care of by a nearby resident before being delivered to Pondok Bambu community health center (Puskesmas) for a medical checkup.
“The baby was found healthy, 2.6 kilograms in weight and 44 centimeters in length. The Puskesmas staff cut his placenta and gave him milk formula,” Sahita said in a press statement.
Sahita added the baby would be looked after at Tunas Bangsa Orphanage in Cipayung, East Jakarta. (gis)
