retired Army personnel, Maming Mulyorejo, 70, was heavily injured after being caught in a landslide that dragged his rented house into the restored Ciliwung River in Manggarai, Tebet district, South Jakarta.
Tebet Police Chief, Pol. Comr. Maulana, said the elderly man was rescued from the scene by the police and his neighbors on Tuesday.
“He was still conscious while being rescued. We immediately took him to Gatot Subroto Army Hospital [in Central Jakarta],” said Maulana.
Maulana said the house's foundation had been eroded by the river water, causing the house to collapse into the river.
“Manggarai subdistrict officers will immediately remove the debris of the house as well as recover the victim’s personal belongings. We do not want the debris to clog the river and cause flooding,” said Maulana. (gis)
