angerang Police in Banten arrested two men, identified as Solihin, 23, and Iyus, 19, for allegedly attempting to smuggle ecstasy pills to inmates in a class IIA youth penitentiary in the city.
“During an inspection we discovered that the two men carried 18 ecstasy pills that they had hidden inside a box of powdered milk,” Tangerang Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Harley Silalahi said in a statement on Monday evening, as quoted by kompas.com.
The alleged smuggling attempt took place on Thursday, after they initially asked permission to visit an inmate, Harley said.
“Based on the suspects’ testimony, the pills were ordered by an inmate named Marlani Bastian,” Harley said.
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) recently revealed that the drug trade within the country’s prisons was rampant.
