he number of students who were allegedly sexually abused by a physical education teacher of a junior high school in East Jakarta has increased to 16.
“All of the victims are between 11 and 15 years old,” said East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Yoyon Tony Surya.
When the case was first reported on Dec. 23, only three victims were named. The alleged abuser was detained four days later.
Yoyon said all the alleged victims were undergoing medical check-ups at the police hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.
According to the police, the PE teacher’s neighbors had already grown suspicious of him as he always had one or two male students at his house.
Pasar Rebo Police has established a report center to encourage unreported victims to step forward.
“We anticipate the possibility of more victims in the case,” Yoyon said as quoted by tempo.co. (gis)
