resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said that anyone he will recommend to replace Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo, who is set to retire in May, must be trusted by both the market and the general public.
“The person must be trusted by the market for his capability in dealing with macroeconomic and monetary aspects and inflation. He should also be trusted by the public,” Jokowi said on Friday when attending the University of Indonesia’s 68th anniversary, as reported by news agency Antara.
Jokowi said, however, that he had not yet received the names of any potential candidates, pointing out that he had time until late February, when the candidate names would be submitted to the House of Representatives for a ‘fit and proper’ test, as required by law.
Jokowi has already submitted three candidates to replace BI deputy governor Perry Warjiyo, who will retire in April.
The three candidates are the central bank's monetary and economic policy executive director Dody Budi Waluyo, monetary policy director Doddy Zulverd and West Java representative office head Wiwiek Sisto Hidayat. (ami/bbn)
