ome 260 families in Rajawali, Pancoran in South Jakarta have been affected by floodwaters from the overflowing Ciliwung River, an official said on Monday.

Pancoran district head Herry Gunara said that as of 11 a.m., the floodwaters had inundated several areas at Pancoran's community unit (RW) 007.

"The water level has risen to 60 centimeters," Herry told kompas.com.

He added that authorities had yet to form an emergency post in the area. Meanwhile, the water levels in other subdistricts in Pancoran had reportedly risen too.

In Pengadegan, for instance, the water level had risen to 25 centimeters, he said.

Heavy rains on Sunday raised water levels in Bogor, West Java, prompting authorities to warn residents of possible flash flooding downstream along the Ciliwung River in Jakarta.

At the Katulampa water gate in Bogor, the Ciliwung's water level had risen to 220 centimeters at 8:30 a.m. and risen again to 240 centimeters by 9:05 a.m., enough to raise the alert status to the highest level.

National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the waters from Bogor would reach Manggarai sluice gate in South Jakarta in the afternoon and would hit several rivers in the eastern and southern part of the capital, such as Srengseng Sawah, Rawajati, Kalibata, Pengadegan, Pejaten Timur, Kebon Baru, Bukit Duri, Balekambang, Cililitan, Bidara Cina and Kampung Melayu.

The heavy downpour in several areas in Bogor has also paralyzed traffic in Puncak, where landslides at the Atta’awun Mosque, Widuri, Grand Hill and Riung Gunung have blocked access for vehicles.

The rain has also toppled trees as well as electricity poles. (fac)
