n embankment behind Baiturrahman Mosque in Tapos, Depok, West Java, collapsed during heavy rain on Tuesday, blocking a river and flooding local residential areas.
Water from the river flooded a mosque and a nearby kindergarten on Wednesday.
Baiturrahman Kindergarten principal Setiawati said the floodwater, which was approximately 30 centimeters deep, did not disrupt the school’s activities.
“Our school has another entrance in the front for students, parents and teachers, so it did not affect us a lot,” said Setiawati as quoted by kompas.com.
According to Setiawati, the Depok administration had deployed the Flood Relief Task Force to help clean up debris from the landslide. A landowner had also sent out heavy machinery to assist in the cleanup process.
“I hope the embankment can be repaired soon so that water won’t flood our yard and disturb ongoing mosque construction,” said Setiawati. (jlm)
