he Jakarta Police have arrested four suspects of fraud, who allegedly pretended to be investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The suspects, identified only as HRS, Abd, ER and DD, allegedly swindled money from Hendry, who was involved in a graft case that is currently being investigated by the commission.

“The suspects told the victim that they could help him with the case in return for some money,” said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono on Tuesday.

Lured by the promise, Hendry then reportedly flew from Jambi to Jakarta to meet DD and ER. DD and ER brought Hendry to a hotel to meet HRS and Abd, who allegedly acted as KPK investigators named Imam Turmudi and Irawan, respectively.

“During the meeting, the suspects allegedly asked Hendry to give them Rp 150 million [US$11,000]. Hendry had transferred Rp 10 million,” Argo said, adding that the officers had detained the suspects on Tuesday.

However, when Hendry realized that he had been defrauded and filed a police report. (vla)
