olice have arrested a man in North Jakarta for allegedly stealing his employer’s car right after taking a job as a driver.
Penjaringan Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Rachmat Sumekar said on Friday that the suspect, 33-year-old Yus, had worked for just one day when he made off with his employer’s Honda CRV on Friday.
“The suspect said he was compelled to steal the car because he was poor, as he had no stable job and little education. Driving is his only skill,” said Rachmat, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The employer, identified only as TY, said he had trusted the new driver because a friend had recommended him.
He said he had been looking for a new driver because his previous one was sick.
“I trusted my friend, so I did not take [the driver’s] ID card,” said TY, adding that Yus had been employed after being interviewed the night before.
