body of a resident of Pulau Jelmu village in Tebo regency, Jambi, was found on Sunday after being attacked by a crocodile while taking a bath in a river in Jambi a day earlier.
A resident of the neighboring Bungo Tanjung village named Rafawi, 58, found the body of Hofsah, 40, on Sunday morning on the banks of the Batanghari River. He reported his find to local authorities who took the body to the local community health clinic.
Suharjo, a doctor at Pulau Temiang health clinic, said an autopsy performed on Hopsah’s body revealed that she died after sustaining 27 bite wounds to her body.
“There are also other smaller bites on her legs and body,” he said on Sunday.
The crocodile attacked Hofsah about 100 meters from her house on Saturday morning.
Tebo Ulu district chief Yahoza said this was the third crocodile attack in the past few months. He urged residents living on the river’s banks to be extra careful when having activities in the river because no information had been provided on how many crocodiles are in the river.
