enior investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan is scheduled to return home from Singapore soon after showing signs of progress following a successful surgery for his injured eye last week.
KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said the top graft buster would fly home to Jakarta on Thursday should examinations, which are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, show good results.
After returning, Novel will undergo outpatient treatment and be examined by a doctor every three weeks.
“The latest surgery was deemed successful in replacing several membranes in Novel’s heavily injured left eye. If the recovery goes well, he can be scheduled to undergo [reconstruction] surgery on the second eye in April,” Febri said on Monday.
Ahead of Novel’s homecoming to Jakarta, the KPK has voiced hope the police would complete their investigation into the case.
“Today marked 10 months and eight days since Novel was attacked. The KPK hopes the perpetrators are arrested soon,” Febri added.
Novel suffered severe burns to his eyes when he was attacked with acid by two unknown assailants on April 11 last year.
Activists have slammed the police for their slow response in investigating the attack, which was also considered an attack on the country’s antigraft efforts.
