looding has disrupted 130 trains since Friday as floodwater inundated railway sections in Cirebon, both northern and southern routes.
The Jakarta-Surabaya southern railway route passes through several areas, including Cirebon and Cilegug in West Java and Prupuk and Purwokerto in Central Java, while the northern route passes through Cirebon, Tegal and Semarang in Central Java.
Spokesman of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI)’s Cirebon operation Krisbiyantoro said all trains had been disrupted since 11:30 a.m.
“Initially, we could still direct the trains to the northern route, but since 11:30 a.m., no railway tracks could be passed,” said Krisbiyantoro as reported by tempo.co.
The floodwater inundated about 1,100 meters of a section on the southern route, said the official, adding that the 13-centimeter-high floodwater had also inundated certain sections of the northern route.
“All trains have to stop in the nearest stations,” he added.
The flooding was sparked by the overflowing Cisannggarung River in Cirebon on early Friday due to heavy rain in the area. (bbn)
