he Jakarta administration has decided to continue its plan to build 10 reservoirs this year in a bid to create more water absorption sites amid the threat of floods across the city.
The planned locations include Jagakarsa and Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta, Kaja, Dogol, Cimanggis and Pekayon in East Jakarta, Kesatriaan, Rawa Kendal and Marunda in North Jakarta and Kendal in Central Jakarta.
Jakarta Water Resources Agency head Teguh Hendarwan said on Monday the plan showed sluggish progress due to land clearance issues. He mentioned that for the Marunda reservoir, the agency had only obtained 50 hectares of land for the project.
He added that the project would need Rp 75 billion (US$5.25 million) and was expected to finish by year-end. "Accelerating reservoir projects is one of our focuses," he said, as quoted by kompas.id.
He added that if the land clearance issues remained a problem, he would find other locations.
According to the agency, there are 108 lakes and reservoirs spread across the capital. (fac)
