undreds of people packed Rorotan in North Jakarta, where a zero down-payment housing project will reportedly be constructed. They were eager to get more information about the housing program.

The housing project’s groundbreaking was slated to be held on Wednesday morning, however Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the project in Rorotan did not belong to the city administration.

Syarif, a Rorotan resident who sought more information on the purchase requirements, said “I’ve been longing to have my own house and I thought I could realize it [through the zero down-payment housing],” he told kompas.com.

Similar to Syarif, Cipinang Melayu resident Rusman said he had traveled quite far to visit Rorotan and had gathered as much information as he could to purchase a house there.

Another visitor, Maulana, said “I’ve got news [about the housing project] from Facebook and from other people. I’m here to check out what the fuss is all about.”

At least 100 homes will reportedly be built on 1.3 hectares owned by developer PT Nusa Kirana.

The housing scheme was among Anies’ campaign promises. (vla)
