A

student of Darussalam Middle School in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, allegedly threw a chair and a cellphone at a teacher on Wednesday.

Nuzul Kurniawati, the teacher, suffered injuries to the head and is now hospitalized and receiving intensive care.

The incident occurred around 10 am during an Islamic cultural history class, Ahmad Bustomi, the school's headmaster said, as reported by Wartakota.

Ahmad said the student, identified only as NF, was playing with his cellphone in class, and ignored the classroom teacher’s instructions to concentrate on the lesson.

The teacher then summoned Nuzul Kurniawati, who was available in the teachers’ common room at the time, for a help. Nuzul entered the class and began talking to NF. Agitated, NF suddenly threw his chair at Nuzul, before throwing his cellphone as well.

NF was reported to the police for assault. East Pontianak Police Precinct chief Comm. Abdul Hafidz said the police were investigating the case.

“This is a special case because the suspect is a minor,” he added. (gis/swd)
