Odd-even policy to cut traffic by 2,000 vehicles

he Transportation Ministry and the Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) expects traffic on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road to be cut by around 2000 vehicles when the odd-even license plate policy comes into effect on March 12.
Under the policy, only vehicles with even license plate numbers are allowed through the West and East Bekasi toll gates on even dates from 6 to 9 a.m. and only vehicles with odd license plate numbers are allowed through the gates on odd dates.
The ministry records that current traffic congestion on the toll roads is caused by the entry of about 8,000 vehicles during that period of time from Monday to Friday.
“The enforcement of the odd-even policy will reduce 20 percent of the vehicles, or about 2,000 vehicles,” said state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga president director Desi Arryani in Jakarta on Thursday as reported by kontan.co.id.
The odd-even license plate policy was stipulated in Transportation Ministerial Regulation No. 18/2018 on traffic arrangement during the construction of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.
Previously, the Transportation Ministry said it was preparing 60 buses to be operated from Bekasi to Jakarta ahead of the policy coming into effect. The buses would serve motorists who usually drove their cars via the West Bekasi and East Bekasi toll gates to their workplaces in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the BPTJ would also provide motorists with four parking lots at Mega Mall Bekasi, the Mal Metropolitan Bekasi, the Bekasi Cyber Park and the Patriot Bekasi Stadium. (bbn)
