eputy Governor Sandiaga Uno plans to announce the results of a survey on the closure of Jl. Jatibaru Raya in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Friday afternoon. They survey has been conducted since the closure of the road to accommodate around 400 street vendors in December last year.
“Give me ten to 15 minutes this afternoon to make a presentation on the survey’s results,” Sandiaga said on Friday.
He said previously that the closure of the road, which has sparked controversy among those affected including public minivan drivers, was temporary. The administration is set to announce a more extensive plan on the arrangement of the area, which is home to the biggest textile market in Southeast Asia.
“After getting insights from relevant parties [we will launch the bigger plan],” Sandiaga said.
The administration, under the instruction of Governor Anies Baswedan, closed Jl. Jatibaru Raya in December last year. Article 128 of Law. 22/2009 on traffic and land transportation regulates that the administration is required to get a permit from the police before closing any roads, but Anies did not do so.
A recommendation letter sent to Anies from the police calling for the reopening of the road was ignored.
