tate-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has said it will increase capacity in anticipation of a surge in passenger numbers during the Idul Fitri holiday.
The Idul Fitri holiday will span from June 5 to 26.
KAI will increase the number of seats by 3.5 percent to 236,210 seats daily, from the 228,158 seats available during last year's Idul Fitri holiday.
"We estimate the peak of the exodus season will be two days before Idul Fitri and the peak flow of the counter exodus will be on June 17," KAI operational director Slamet Suseno said on Monday.
Idul Fitri will begin on the evening of June 14 and end on the evening of June 16.
The number of train journeys will also be increased by 4 percent to 393 trips per day from 379 trips last year.
Meanwhile, Slamet said the number of passengers is estimated to increase by 5 percent to 5.8 million passengers.
The railway operator began selling tickets for Idul Fitri trains on March 7. (bbn)
