T

wo men have been arrested in Bekasi, West Java, after they and two others stole a truck belonging to their new boss, who had recently given them jobs selling fried tofu.

Pondok Gede Police chief Comr. Suwari said in a statement on Tuesday that the four suspects had approached the victim and asked for a job.

"The victim entrusted a pickup truck to the men to sell fried tofu. They were supposed to return the truck every night along with their earnings, but they did not," Suwari said, as quoted by kompas.com.

The police were alerted on Friday that the suspects had been seen in Tigaraksa, Banten. Two of the suspects, identified as Den and Her, were arrested, while the two others, RJ and MM, were named fugitives. The police have also confiscated the pickup truck.

According to the suspects' confessions, they had been incensed by the victim’s stinginess, even though they had only worked for the victim for one day. They claimed that their ire was fanned by RJ and MM, who had been working much longer for the victim. The four had then hatched a plan to steal the truck and split the earnings among them.

The suspects are being charged under Article 372 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison. (jlm)
