he West Jakarta Transportation Agency has collected almost Rp 500 million (US$35,000) in fines after ticketing 967 cars parked illegally along sidewalks and roads from January to March 13.
The agency's control and operational department head, Hengky Sitorus, said the owner of the cars were required to pay a fine of Rp 500,000 per day as their cars were temporarily parked at parking lots.
"The fine imposed to hundreds of car owners will become regional income. We have received Rp 483.5 million so far," Hengky said as quoted by beritajakarta.id on Wednesday.
He added that based on agency data, last year, 4,821 cars violated parking laws and the agency collected Rp 2.41 billion.
"We keep ticketing those who park illegally either on the sidewalk or on the roadside because it caused traffic congestion, and sidewalks are for pedestrians," Hengky said. (wnd)
