Switzerland Tourism, the national tourism board of Switzerland, hosted 150 travel agencies from Indonesia at this year’s Switzerland Travel Experience Workshop, which was held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday and Thursday.
During the two-day workshop, the travel agents had an opportunity to interact with more than 20 Swiss tourism industry players, including suppliers, destination operators, mountain excursion agencies, hotels, land operators and watch and jewelry makers. There were also lectures about Swiss travel products and new travel itineraries for the Indonesian market.
At the end of the program some operators received the Switzerland Tourism Expert Certificate after they completed a newly launched online learning program about the beautiful Alpine country.
Of late, there has been an increasing interest about Switzerland from Indonesian tourists. During the last five years, the number of Indonesian tourists who visited the European country had grown by an average of 10 percent. Last year, Indonesian overnight stays in Switzerland reached more than 92,000, a record 16.9 percent growth compared to 2016.
“There are not only more Indonesian guests coming to Switzerland, but we are also seeing a significant increase in the average length of stay,” Ivan Breiter, Switzerland Tourism’s Southeast Asia director, said in a press release sent to The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
“Guests visit our tourism hot spots and also many smaller, lesser known destinations in the rural and alpine areas of the country.”
